I HEARD THE CRICKET IN THE THICKET

I heard the cricket

in the thicket,

at the dusk of day.

<=>

It was

chirping,

chirping,

chirping,

<=>

as I heard it

chirp away.

<=>

I liked that sound

with its resound

<=>

that seemed

to increase

from the ground.

<=>

Yet the cricket

was not found.

<=>

The cricket patterned

with another cricket

then another.

<=>

There was

a cricket chorus

chirping like no other.

<=>

The sun went down.

<=>

The sky went dark.

<=>

I could hear

all of the chirping

from the crickets with spark.

<=>

What are they chirping?

<=>

What is it,

they say?

<=>

Why do crickets

chirp at night,

more than

in the day?

<=>

I have many questions

that I’d like to know.

<=>

Yet I cannot catch

the crickets,

for off they run and go.

<=>

I can study

about crickets

and

learn from their ways.

<=>

I hope I hear

them chirping,

at the dusk

of my play days.
